Rapperswil-Jona investigates whether Roger Federer's barbecue required a building permit
After seven years of construction and more objections than residents, the town finally turns to the real case: a cookout.
RAPPERSWIL-JONA. According to an insider quoted by 20 Minuten, Roger Federer threw a big barbecue for all the workers to mark the end of construction on his villa on Lake Zurich. The town is now examining whether the cookout required a permit.
“The villa only drew numerous objections,” says an official from the building department. “By our pencil count, slightly more than there are residents. But an unannounced grill is another matter.”
Neighbours, questioned from behind their hedges, confirm the essentials: even the sausages were flipped with a one-handed backhand. “Elegant, precise, not one raised voice,” sighs a resident. “We wanted to complain. We found nothing.”
The village’s main concern, however, was the clock. An informal committee of half-drawn curtains timed the end of the party at 9:59:59 pm. “One second to spare,” notes a pensioner. “Typically Swiss. Almost suspicious.”
The file has been forwarded to the canton, with a recommendation to open a consultation on sausage cooking.
Seven years of procedure, and the only thing that really got grilled was Rapperswil-Jona’s patience.
