Genevan Gets Vaccinated Against Everything Before Weekend In Lyon
Yellow fever, malaria pills, 2,000 francs sewn into the lining: he comes home shaken after seeing a tram.

GENEVA. A Champel executive was vaccinated against yellow fever, typhoid and rabies last week ahead of a two-day weekend in Lyon.
“You never know, over there,” he told the nurse at the travel clinic, who also prescribed malaria tablets “on principle.”
The man then had 2,000 Swiss francs in 100-franc notes sewn into the lining of his jacket, “in case their currency collapses over the weekend.” He signed up on the federal travellers’ register, left a copy of his will with his neighbour and packed six litres of Valais mineral water.
At Lyon Part-Dieu station, he refused a baguette held out by a stranger, then realised it was a bakery.
Back on Sunday night, he showed colleagues a series of photos taken through his hotel window. “They have trams. Real ones. That move,” he said, still visibly moved. “And restaurants with tablecloths. You can tell they’re trying.”
He is already planning a more ambitious expedition next year: Annecy, with a guide.
