Geneva ice rink: kids signed up for hockey in 2026 will get their first game at the same time as their pension
Promised for 2028, then 2030, then 2032, the Trèfle-Blanc rink has just been hit by a new appeal. Youth hockey schools are adjusting their programmes accordingly.

GENEVA. First promised for 2028, then for 2030, then for 2032, the future Trèfle-Blanc ice rink has just been hit by a new appeal. According to cantonal projections, children who signed up for hockey this year will play their first home game on the day they receive their first state pension payment.
“We’ve adapted our training accordingly,” says a local youth coach. “The under-9s now learn skating, stickhandling and how to fill in a pension application form.”
A Geneva actuary calls the timetable “cautious but realistic, provided the retirement age doesn’t move faster than the building site.”
Parents are getting organised. Several have already bought their child’s first kit in adult sizes, with matching walking frame, “so we don’t have to buy everything twice.”
On site, a hoarding has been put up. It is the subject of an appeal.
The authorities refuse to call it a delay. According to a spokesperson, the rink will be delivered “on time, just not in ours.”
